Much of my reading this year has been background research for the book I’m writing on the murder of schoolboy Percy Searle in 1888. The accused was another child called Robert Husband, aged 11. So, I’m mainly reading books on children who kill other children – Blake Morrison’s study of the Bulger Case, Gita Sereny’s work on Mary Bell, Carol Anne Davis’s Children Who Kill. I’m also reading When Children Kill Children by my namesake David A. Green, a professor of sociology at the City University of New York. He retains the middle initial ‘A’ like I usually do when signing my name. Bit odd that: two David A. Greens both writing books about children who kill children.
